FORMULA GRANTS
- The Residential Substance Abuse Treatment program supports individual and group substance abuse treatment activities for offenders in residential facilities operated by state and local correctional agencies.
DISCRETIONARY GRANTS
- Correctional Facilities on Tribal Lands Construction Program has focused efforts on 23 American Indian and Alaska Native tribes that have been provided federal resources to plan and construct correctional facilities on tribal lands for the incarceration of offenders subject to tribal jurisdiction. Fiscal Year 2005 resources enables tribes to complete construction activities, receive training in administration and facility maintenance, and coordinate certification activities with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), U.S. Department of the Interior. Upon completion, the BIA and grantees are responsible for supporting, operating, and maintaining the correctional facilities.
- Prisoner Reentry Initiative The Reentry Initiative is supported by the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs (OJP) and its federal partners: the U.S. Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, and Labor. This initiative is a comprehensive effort that addresses both juvenile and adult populations of serious, high-risk offenders. It provides funding to develop, implement, enhance, and evaluate reentry strategies that will ensure the safety of the community and the reduction of serious, violent crime. This is accomplished by preparing targeted offenders to successfully return to their communities after having served a significant period of secure confinement in a state training school, juvenile or adult correctional facility, or other secure institution.
- Comprehensive Approaches to Sex Offender Management (CASOM) Discretionary Grant Program provides funding to help jurisdictions effectively manage sex offenders in the community by implementing new or enhancing existing programs. Programs need to increase public safety and reduce victimization. Although CASOM focuses on the continuum of activities and services for sex offenders, grant funds must be targeted for community reintegration and community management of these offenders, not for institutional services.
