CopShare - The CopShare list serve was created in an effort to eliminate "reinventing the wheel." When searching for information about a particular topic, the most efficient method for gathering this information tends to be obtaining information that has previously been collected by someone else. Therefore, a law enforcement agency, for example, in need of a policy and procedure on a specific subject can request the policy information through CopShare by simply sending an e-mail to CopShare@cji.net with a brief explanation of the information needed. The information request will then be disseminated to all other list serve members with the anticipation of an informative response being generated. Once the information is received, it will then be forwarded back to the requesting agency.

The National Indian Youth Police Academy is designed to encourage Native American youth to develop careers in law enforcement or in other criminal justice career fields.

Training and Technical Assistance for Indian Nation Juvenile Justice Systems - This program seeks to increase the capacity of Indian tribes to provide adequate and appropriate juvenile justice responses to youth crime, violence, and victimization. The goal of this ongoing technical assistance program is to help equip tribal governments with the necessary information and tools to develop or enhance comprehensive, systemwide approaches to reduce juvenile delinquency, violence, and victimization and to increase the safety of their communities. Types of technical assistance have included juvenile justice and detention needs assessments and program reviews, development of community-based alternatives to incarceration, training on indigenous justice approaches, and seminars on comprehensive juvenile justice planning.

Developing a Strategy for a Multiagency Response to Clandestine Drug Laboratories - This monograph provides program planners with an understanding of existing laws, policies, and procedures that may have an impact on program development; a training plan and communication strategy; a plan for identifying program resources; and an approach for obtaining program support within the department and other agencies.

Rural Law Enforcement Internet Access, Technical Assistance, and Training Program (PDF or ASCII) - This fact sheet describes the National Center for Rural Law Enforcement (NCRLE) program, which provides free Internet access to rural law enforcement agencies across the nation for criminal justice purposes. Requesting agencies receive unlimited technical phone support, any needed PC-compatible connection or Internet software, instructions on how to use software, and the option of creating a web site.

With BJA funding, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) provides training and technical assistance in the following areas: firearms interdiction, model law enforcement policies, special needs of small police departments, and antidrug activities involving illegal aliens.

The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) provides support to several national law enforcement programs, including the Center for Task Force Training (CenTF), the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), the Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS), and the State and Local Anti-Terrorism Training (SLATT) Program.

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), a partnership of federal law enforcement organizations, provides quality, cost-effective training for law enforcement professionals.

NIJ Technology Assisting agencies with technology goes beyond granting money to researchers and developers. NIJ also offers technology related publications--ranging from technical reports to investigative guides; conferences, workshops, and training assistance; and direct technology assistance.
