One Sky Center The mission of the National Resource Center (Center) is to improve prevention and treatment of substance abuse among Native people. The Center objectives are to promote and nurture effective and culturally appropriate substance abuse prevention and treatment services for Native populations; identify culturally appropriate effective evidence-based substance abuse prevention and treatment practices and disseminate them so that they can be applied successfully across diverse tribal communities; and provide training, technical assistance and products to expand the capacity and quality of substance abuse prevention and treatment practitioners serving this population.
Promising Practices and Strategies to Reduce Alcohol and Substance Abuse Among American Indians and Alaska Natives (2000) Nine case studies presenting three types of policy initiatives designed to reduce substance abuse: efforts that control the availability of drugs and alcohol within a tribal jurisdiction; educational and treatment efforts; and efforts that reduce the social and environmental factors that increase the risk of harm to the individual and the community.
